892 wordsChris took slow, calculated steps, constantly reminding himself not to rush this, not to just run over to where Zach was standing and kiss him like there was no tomorrow. He had to tell himself that he would have time for that later, after the ceremony. All of his and Zach’s friends and family had gathered together for the wedding, all of them quietly standing there, their eyes fixed on him. But Chris didn’t give them one look. His eyes were focused on Zach and Zach only. Today was
their day.
“Don’t forget to breathe,” Zoe whispered into Chris’ ear once they had arrived at the back of the garden, where Zach was standing, together with his brother and the ceremony leader. Zoe let go of Chris’ arm and pecked his cheek. “Good luck.”
“You look gorgeous,” Chris said, instantly linking his hand with Zach’s. “So, so gorgeous.” Normally Chris wasn’t a very emotional man, but right now, he could already feel the tears welling up in his eyes. All of this was too good to be true.
Zach smiled and gave his soon-to-be-husband’s hand a gentle squeeze. “Not as gorgeous as you,” he said, his thumb subconsciously rubbing over the back of Chris’ hand. “I love you,” he added in a soft whisper.
“Love you too.”
The couple turned to the master of ceremonies, both their heart rates high above the average. “Ladies and gentlemen,” the man started, a big smile upon his face. “We’ve all come here to celebrate the love and commitment between these two men, Chris and Zach,” he went on, making a small motion with his hand towards Zach and Chris. And that’s how it all started, but neither Zach nor Chris heard much of what the man was saying, they only had eye for each other, the rest of the world was nothing more than a blur of colours and sounds. It was as if they were put under a spell, a spell that neither of them ever wanted to break. It was, however, broken momentarily when the master of ceremonies spoke Zack’s name and told him it was time for their vows.
Zach nodded, his eyes still locked with Chris’ and then he scraped his throat. “You remember the day we first met?” he started, a faint smile upon his face. “I instantly fell for those bright blue eyes of yours and I knew since that day that you and I, that we would end up here, side by side. I knew you were the one person I wanted to share the rest of my life with. So to me, this day is just making things official because in my heart I had always known you were the one for me. I love you, Chris, every day a little bit more.” He took the ring that his brother was offering to him and lifted Chris’ hand. “I give you this ring to wear with love and joy. As a ring has no end, neither has my love for you. I choose you to be my husband this day and forevermore.” He slowly slid the ring over Chris’ finger and then bent down to press a light kiss on it.
Small tears leaked down Chris’ cheek, dripping down onto the grass below them. He was still looking at Zach, his vision blurred from the tears. “I knew it too,” he spoke, sniffing away his tears. “I have always known.”
“Your vows, Chris,” the master of ceremonies said, giving the man’s shoulder a small pat.
Chris nodded in response and wiped the tears from his eyes with the back of his hand. “Oh man, I never thought I would be crying like a baby.” He chuckled and sniffed once more.
Zach smiled and reached out for Chris’ face, wiping away a few of the tears.
Chris lifted his own hand as well, wrapping his fingers around Zach’s wrist, bringing it back down. “Zach,” he started, his hand sliding from the man’s wrist down to his hand, their fingers entwining. “I have been and always will be madly in love with you. You have always been there for me, even if we were miles apart. You’re the Spock to my Kirk the one person I cannot and simply will not live without, no matter what will happen to either of us. I will always love you,” he told Zach, his grip on the man’s hand tightening. He quickly turned to Zoe and took the ring she was holding out for him. “I give you this ring to wear with love and joy. As a ring has no end, neither has my love for you. I choose you to be my husband this day and forevermore.” He easily slipped the simple, silver ring over Zach’s finger, staring at it for a few seconds before looking back up at Zach’s tearstained face. “Seems like I’m not the only cry baby here,” he joked, cupping his lover’s cheek.
“No, you’re not, but you, you’re
my crybaby,” Zach stated, smiling widely.
The master of ceremonies smiled and nodded. “Chris and Zach, I now declare you bonded for life,” he said, spreading his arms. “You may now kiss.”
“Oh God, finally,” Chris muttered, lunging forward, wrapping his arms around Zach’s neck to pull him closer and seal their wedding with a passionate kiss.
